2. Design and sizing parameters

To meet the dielectric, electrical, thermal and mechanical constraints to which substation equipment is subjected in operation, SEM equipment is mainly dimensioned by :

  • resistance to permanent and temporary stress;

  • withstand continuous current and short-circuit current (short-term current);

  • pressure resistance.

2.1 Insulating gas withstands permanent and temporary stresses

A pressurized insulating gas is used to withstand the network's permanent and temporary voltages. Its characteristics determine the overall dimensions of the switchgear.
