3. Mixed or hybrid solutions
With the deployment of solutions based on 4-quadrant IGBT converters, we are now seeing, in parallel with the deployment of STATCOM and above all in response to the need to improve existing systems, the development of solutions in which low-rank filtering is no longer a necessity. As STATCOM IGBT actuators also act as active filters and dynamic dampers, an SVC/STATCOM combination is often possible, especially to improve the performance of an existing SVC installation.
