5. Conclusion
Today, technology is capable of providing sufficiently satisfactory solutions to keep the inconvenience caused by voltage fluctuations within acceptable limits. Progress is always possible, thanks to the development of semiconductor and control technologies. However, the costs of this progress need to be carefully assessed, because while technology seeks optimums, the economy of our organized society also depends on accepted compromises between costs and constraints.
At present, for high-power applications above 100 Mvar, it is a given that manufacturers offer economically viable solutions using only IGBT-type blocking components. Mixed solutions for new projects are therefore unlikely.
