2.1 Negative electrode
The presence of a suitable solid electrolyte enables lithium metal to be used as a negative electrode material. In this case, its cyclability easily exceeds several thousand cycles. It offers the advantage of being quickly and easily deposited by thermal evaporation and of being an electronic conductor. Its theoretical specific capacity is 206 μAh · cm –2 · μm –1 ; a large excess of lithium is generally used. For these reasons, it has been the most commonly used material to date. However, from the point of view of industrial production, and most of its intended applications, it is not without its drawbacks: it is deposited by a different technique...
