1. Coupling to TEmn waveguide modes
The subject briefly outlined in the general introduction pointed out that the energy transported in a waveguide dissociates into TE mn and TM mn modes. Transverse electric modes, designated by the abbreviation TE, are characterized by the presence of an electric field vector contained in the transverse plane of the guide. The electric field is joined by two magnetic field vectors, one of which is directed along the longitudinal direction of the guide and the second, orthogonal to the electric field vector, is necessarily contained in the cross-section.
