1. Line operation on non-linear loads
This first paragraph, subdivided into four parts, addresses the question of the behavior of transmission lines connected to nonlinear loads. The presentation does not provide an exhaustive answer to this difficult problem, but guides the reader towards the construction of virtual electrical circuits that reproduce propagation phenomena. In the progression of the analysis, the first part is devoted to the purely qualitative interpretation of the initiation of an electric arc in the presence of a line. In the second part, non-linear loads are classified according to criteria that take into account the current-voltage relationship and the dependence on the time variable. In the third and fourth parts of this section, physical analysis facilitated by the use of equivalent electrical circuits will enable us to clearly differentiate the behavior of class 2 and class 3 nonlinear loads.
