Balancing
Arrangement of steps at an angle (turning quarter) or change of direction at 90° or 180° (complete swinging of the flight), for more comfortable stair climbing and to reduce the space required in the stairwell.
Several layouts are available. The swing zone in a corner or turning quarter can include :
radiating steps (uncomfortable and unsightly layout);
or dance marches.
Cage
The volume of space in which the staircase fits (figure 1 ).
