INTRODUCTION
Renderings have come a long way since the days when they consisted solely of whitewashing cob. First came silicatization, then paints and varnishes, leading to products with ever more effective functions, such as waterproofing and thermal insulation.
Restoring, cleaning and beautifying the exterior surfaces of buildings is a vital part of preserving architectural heritage and maintaining the comfort of residents. Through a series of measures, from initial diagnosis to the completion of work by specialized contractors, this complex process ensures the durability of buildings while meeting aesthetic and functional requirements.
This article explores the various dimensions of facade restoration, highlighting the issues involved, the methods used and the impact on building durability. It is limited to renderings using coatings, paints or related systems, and does not cover renderings using exposed stone, which in themselves represent an important technical document.
