1. Geothermal energy: a natural source of thermal energy
1.1 Definition
Geothermal energy consists of extracting the earth's internal energy to produce heat or electricity in the form of a natural heat flow. In some regions, hot water rises to the surface in the form of geysers, steam jets (Laderello in Italy) or hot springs (Chaudes-Aigues, La Preste) (figure 1 ).
