3.1.1 Air-to-water aerothermal heat pump
In the 2010s, heat pumps stopped working as soon as the temperature dropped below – 5°C; today, most heat pumps still operate at – 15°C, or even – 25°C.
This was a problem because users of the special EDF, EJP or TEMPO tariffs could not use their heat pump when the tariff was most expensive, forcing them to have a backup boiler. Don't forget that the coefficient of performance drops when the temperature is low....
