Steel; acier

A metal alloy composed mainly of iron and carbon, produced by the reduction of iron ore, scrap metal and metallurgical coke.

Allongement à la rupture; elongation at fracture

Elongation at break is the maximum strain a material can undergo before breaking.

Essai chimique; chemical test

Analyzes the composition and reactivity of the material in the presence of various chemical substances, enabling selection of the most suitable material for a given environment and assessment of the durability of structures.

Hardness test

Used to classify materials according to their resistance to deformation by penetration with a harder material.
