6. Conclusion
Geomembranes have become an integral part of the civil engineering landscape. While the geomembranes presented in this article are well established and used in a growing number of structures, new geomembranes are appearing on the market. In particular, more and more composite geomembranes are appearing, made up of several layers of different polymeric materials. Such geomembranes are sometimes created for the specific needs of a project.
Although new geomembranes appear from time to time, some ephemeral, others more permanent, the basic information given in this article will always be applicable. This information is supplemented by that provided in a series of articles following this one.
