1. Definition and description

Article R. 211-1 of the French Civil Aviation Code defines an aerodrome as "any land or water area specially equipped for the landing, take-off and maneuvering of aircraft, including any ancillary facilities it may contain for the purposes of traffic and aircraft servicing".

The aerodrome (figure 1 ) comprises two main parts: the movement area and the facility zones. It is also inseparable from its air and land environments.
