1. Definitions

There is no standardized definition of the term "structural steel". The reader should therefore bear in mind the indications given below, as well as the details of the steels to which this designation may be applied.

  • If we refer to the fields of use of these steels, we can say that they are the steels used in most of the activities grouped under the heading "Construction Métallique" by Qualibat, the organization in charge of the qualification and certification of building companies for the realization in particular :

    • steel structures ;

    • frameworks for metal lifting and handling equipment;

    • engineering structures ;

    • metal bridges ;

    • marine platforms ;
