3. Application performance of structural steels

Structural steels are essentially defined by their properties of use.

These properties of use are guaranteed. They are :

  • yield strength at 20°C,R eH expressed in N/mm 2 ;

  • tensile strength at 20 °C,R m expressed in N/m ;

  • elongation at break at 20 °C,A expressed in % ;

  • the impact bending fracture energy KV expressed in Joule (also known as resilience, without the value being expressed per cm 2 ) on a Charpy V specimen at room temperature and, if required, at low temperature.
