2. Standard designation for structural steel

All structural steels are :

  • symbolically designated on the basis of their use and mechanical characteristics according to the principles defined in standard NF EN 10027-1 ;

  • numbered according to the system described in standard NF EN 10027-2.

2.1 Standardized symbolic designation

The symbolic designation begins with the letter S followed by a whole number equal to the minimum value of the guaranteed yield strength for the lowest thickness range. This set may be followed by additional symbols which may be successively :
