Regardless of the cold forming method used, the mechanical properties of the material are altered.

When a profile is cold-formed from sheet metal or strip, the roll-forming operations result in work-hardening of the bending zones, leading to an increase in the yield strength of the initial product and, to a lesser extent, its tensile strength, located in the vicinity of these bending zones.
