6. Ruin models for plate buckling
The structural Eurocodes are based on the concept of limit states.
Ultimate limit states, which control resistance, refer to ultimate loads whose evaluation is based on simplified models known as "failure models".
It has already been specified that such a model is specific to an elementary type of stress.

Models are now available covering :

a mono-axial distribution of normal stresses, for which we distinguish (for historical reasons) :
uniform compression,
pure bending ;
a shear stress distribution (pure shear) ;
the action of a concentrated transverse load....
