1. Effects of snow

In 1985, the new N 84 rules (Afnor reference DTU P 06-006), dealing with the action of snow on constructions, were introduced. They were made compulsory, replacing the snow section of the NV 65 rules for concrete constructions covered by the BAEL and BPEL (limit state regulations) calculation rules.

For other materials, such as steel, aluminum and wood, the snow section of NV 65 still applies, but with the snow map of N 84 rules, with the load values for each zone adapted.

Indeed, while the N 84 rules define ground loads (So), the NV 65 rules define roof loads, these two values being linked by the shape coefficient µ (µ = 0.8 for a flat roof).
