2. Wind effects

2.1 Definitions

  • Wind direction

    The overall mean wind direction is assumed to be horizontal.

  • Surface exposure

    Assuming we replace the air stream with a bundle of light rays in the same direction, illuminated surfaces are said to be "upwind" and unilluminated surfaces are said to be "downwind".

  • Master-couple

    In the same spirit of substituting a light ray for the wind, the shadow cast on a plane perpendicular to the direction of the rays (or wind) is called the master couple of the construction.
