9. Dowel installation

9.1 Positioning

Positioning tolerances for dowels are rarely very large:

The part to be fastened often has to be precisely positioned, and through-holes are imposed and often allow limited adjustment. As a result, drilling positions must be precise.

However, when the support material is heavily reinforced, this can pose a problem.

In fact, although in theory drill bits mounted on roto-percussion machines are able to pass through reinforcement in concrete, when a drill bit encounters steel it greatly slows down rates and significantly reduces drill bit life. This is a situation to be avoided.
