1. Concrete, a structural material
1.1 General
Concrete is a construction material capable of meeting the multiple constraints and requirements imposed on buildings and civil engineering structures: mechanical stability, watertightness, fire resistance, acoustic insulation, thermal inertia, durability, respect for the environment and, of course, surface appearance. An example of a civil engineering structure is shown in figure 1 .
