ABSTRACT

The curtain wall has been widely developed through the industrialization of the fabrication process. This solution, allowing for construction in the plant and the installation of a finished product, only used to be carried out by relatively large plants. More widespread at this time, this fabrication process has become standardized and an ever-increasing number of curtain walls are now composed of recent constructions; in particular very high buildings. Two main types of curtain walls must be noted: the glued exterior glazing and attached exterior glazing. After having briefly recalled the context, this article details the standardizations and technical rules (product standards, various clauses and criteria) induced by the development of these applications.

 INTRODUCTION

Curtain walls are becoming increasingly common in newly-constructed commercial buildings. This development has been accompanied by standardization and technical rules of application for the two main types of curtain walling: glued exterior glazing and attached exterior glazing. These curtain walls are also part of the architectural composition of very tall buildings.
