6. Main components of RFU

Based on the heating network model, the refrigeration network (RFU) is made up of :

  • one or more heat removal units, which can be considered as refrigeration plants or chilled water production plants;

  • a network of pipes for transporting heat by means of a heat transfer fluid (generally water at a temperature of between 6 and 12°C on the outward journey and between 10 and 20°C on the return journey);

  • substations to collect heat from the buildings to be air-conditioned.
