4.1.1 Reactivity control

Controlling reactivity means controlling the nuclear reaction by absorbing some of the neutrons produced. The operator has two ways of doing this:

  • boric acid diluted in the primary circuit water, the concentration of which is varied;

  • control clusters that can be inserted or removed from fuel assemblies.
