1. Non-nuclear line measurements
1.1 Measuring pressure, level and density of solutions in containers
Given the radioactive nature of the solutions, the techniques used exclude conventional techniques used in the chemical industry where sensors are in direct contact with the liquids (floats, float densimeters, etc.) or are in the tank enclosure above the liquid (sound or ultrasonic sensors, etc.).
The principle involves injecting low-flow air into bubbling tubes, the pressure of which, used as an indirect measure, is a function of the force that has to be overcome against the liquid column to evacuate the air at the end of the tube. The transmitters measuring this air pressure can therefore be installed in non-nuclear zones above the tanks.

Economic data
Only three nations are currently engaged in the implementation of reprocessing and associated MOX:
In France, Cogema operates two commercial light-water fuel reprocessing plants, UP3 and UP2 800, with a unit capacity of 800 t/year, at La Hague, and a natural uranium fuel reprocessing plant at Marcoule, which will cease production at the end of 1997;
