6. Panelling and battens

Large, flat panels are manufactured from wooden slats glued along their long sides. In this way, either decorative panels (figure 19 ) or slatted panels, such as those shown in figures 6b and c of the [BM 7 634] file, can be obtained.

Special machines called lathing or panelling machines are used for this purpose.

This technique offers two major advantages:

  • it offers the possibility of making large panels from slats of small square cross-section, from 2 × 2 to 5 × 5 cm, which makes it possible to recover small trees and slabs...
