1. Process description

1.1 Principle

The general principle of the TIG process is shown in figure 1 .

The electric arc, produced by the passage of current through the ionized shielding gas, is established between the tip of the electrode and the workpiece. The heat generated by the arc melts the metal. Once the molten pool is established, the torch is moved along the joint to complete the weld.
