10. Glossary

soudage ; welding

Assembly of two parts, metallic or not, based on reconstruction of the interface between the two parts by local fusion or atomic diffusion.

arc électrique; electrical arc

Arc generated by the passage of an intense electric current between two electrodes, an anode and a cathode. In welding, this is one of the ways of bringing heat to the parts to be joined, enabling them to fuse and weld together after the arc has stopped.

électrode non fusible; non-consumable electrode

Welding electrode where the electric arc is generated. Generally made of pure or alloyed tungsten, it does not melt during the welding operation. The choice of tungsten as a refractory material is due to its high electronic thermo-emissivity.
