1. General
For resistance welding processes, as for others, experience provides access to a certain number of results which are essential to the implementation of the process, and in particular to the resistance of the welds produced, depending on the welding parameters used. However, certain welding conditions can be costly to set up for a simple experiment (for example, using parameters outside the operating ranges of the available machine, or testing unusual geometries requiring the specific production of samples). In addition, understanding the physics of the process is complex, because mechanical, electrical, thermal and metallurgical phenomena are strongly coupled.
