INTRODUCTION
In connection with the machine and its tapping equipment, which is the subject of the file , the choice of tapping technique, whether cutting or forming, and the operational parameters determine process quality, reliability and tool life. The choice of one or other of these techniques is not necessarily possible, as each has its own limits of application. What's more, the analysis of a tapping operation cannot be independent of the operations involved in making the tap hole. The geometric properties required of the pilot hole depend on the tapping technique used. Beyond the process aspects, the choice of technique, or the execution of the same technique under different conditions, influences the geometric qualities and mechanical and metallurgical properties of the threads produced.
This dossier presents two tapping techniques, cutting and forming, and explains how each works in relation to tool geometries. They differ in their specific features and capabilities, both in terms of execution and the results obtained.
