3.1 Link between assembly design and tapping technique

In the case of bolted assemblies, the element with the internal thread is the nut, whereas in the case of a screwed assembly, the element with the internal thread is one of the two assembled parts. The decision to use bolts or screws mounted in threaded parts must take into account several aspects with implications for design and manufacture.

If the threaded part is made of aluminum alloy, then the thread sizing is not the same as if the assembly is bolted. The nut is generally made of steel and, depending on the grade selected, offers better mechanical strength than an aluminum alloy, especially if the housing is cast.
