2. Normative context

2.1 IEC 61508 standard

Critical systems are systems which, in the event of failure, could cause physical injury to one or more people.

For this class of system, studies must be carried out to demonstrate the absence of failures that would be contrary to safety. However, not all systems are considered critical. There are scales for defining levels of criticality, associated with objectives to be achieved.
