1. Different belt types

1.1 Definitions and terminology

  • Synchronous belt: a belt whose cross-section has the general shape of a rectangle, but which has transverse teeth on its inside face at regular intervals (figure 1 ). Teeth may also be present on the outside: double-toothed synchronous belt.

  • Tooth: one of the transverse elements projecting from the inner face of the belt and having the right profile to mesh with the teeth of a synchronous pulley.
