4. Calculating transmissions

The aim of this section is to provide a simplified methodology for calculating drive systems. The transmissions chosen are those with two pulleys only, equipped with a synchronous belt with fiberglass reinforcement and polychloroprene teeth (the most common case). For the calculation of complex transmissions, readers are advised to consult the manufacturers.

The calculation principle is valid regardless of the type of synchronous belts used, and is very similar to that for adhesion-driven belts (see Pulleys and transmission belts). Adhesion drive in this treatise).
