4. Leak detection and measurement

After manufacture and before commissioning, it is necessary to check that the containment system meets the specifications. Depending on the complexity of the system, it may be necessary to carry out checks at different stages of the manufacturing process, in order to simplify inspections. For this purpose, leak tests are carried out and any defects corrected.

Leaks can also occur in service as a result of damage or normal wear and tear. It is often important to detect this leakage and to know its extent, in order to determine whether the equipment is still fit for service. It's the in-service inspection that differs from the manufacturing inspection, as the conditions under which it is carried out are different.
