1. Presentation

1.1 Classic cylinders

The simplest cylinder is called a single-acting cylinder (figure 2 ). Its rod or plunger extends under the effect of the fluid entering the body, and it is the load (weight) or an external return device that returns it to its initial "retracted" position when the fluid is allowed to escape. If the cylinder has two or more concentric rods adding their relative strokes, it is said to be telescopic 5
