8. Conclusion

This study of gearboxes and speed multipliers has enabled us to analyze in detail the different types of realizations. Whether it's a catalog selection or a custom-built product, there are a few key points to bear in mind.

At a fixed power and constant ratio not exceeding 8, the price evolves according to the geometry, the nature of the materials and the finish of the teeth, with the evolution ratio reaching 3 to 5.

The external cylindrical gear is the most competitive, with volume and mass moving towards a minimum with case-hardening steels and grinding, while the price per unit of mass increases with quality.

Bevel gears are expensive, have limited tangential speed, take up a lot of space and are rather tricky to adjust.
