3. Derivative elementary gearboxes

Without going as far as simple gear groups, it is possible to create basic gearboxes with more than two gears.

3.1 Intermediate-wheel (or parasitic-wheel) gearboxes

The pinion (1) of diameter d 1 is not in contact with the wheel (2) of diameter d 2 (figure 6 ), the center distance being greater than half the sum of the head diameters :
