 INTRODUCTION

The development of gas turbine performance over the last twenty years has been exceptional. The use of gas turbines as aircraft propulsion systems, which became increasingly widespread from the 1950s onwards, was accompanied by growing industrial use from the 1980s onwards, when the advent of the combined gas-steam cycle enabled a significant increase in the energy conversion efficiency of conventional thermal generators.
