3. Usual charge-air line architectures

The following applies only to supercharged engines equipped with a charge gas cooling system.

3.1 A reminder about exchanger modeling

By definition, when we want to characterize a tube or pipe through which a fluid flows, we need to know :

  • the pressure drop across the pipe,

  • the thermal power exchanged.

In this type of stationary modeling, we consider the fluid flow to be constant. In this case, the pressure drop for a given flow cross-section is represented by :
