Sulfation; Sulfation
The technique of adding a sulfate group – SO 4 2 – to a compound. Sulfation can be chemical (addition of gaseous SO 3 , sulfamic acid H 2 NSO 3 , sulfuric chlorohydrin ClSO 3 H...) or enzymaticvia a sulfotransferase catalyzing the transfer of a sulfate group most often via a 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS).
