3. Conclusion
The marine microbiome is not only interesting from a scientific point of view. Of course, the marine microbiome is at the base of the marine trophic chain, and plays an essential role in the major biogeochemical cycles, in climate regulation and in combating the effects of global change... However, marine microorganisms have also enabled numerous biotechnological applications, notably via the discovery of bioactive compounds, enzymes and polymers that have found applications in the fields of biotechnology.
The use of ever more effective techniques, particularly high-throughput tools, the discovery of new marine habitats, especially deep-sea habitats, and the marine mycology skills of numerous laboratories worldwide, are opening up a whole new range of prospects in this field of research.
