9. Conclusion

As we have tried to show in this document, methanization is a technology of the future for the treatment of effluents containing organic carbon (wastewater, sludge, waste). It is an optimized application of biological phenomena that enables a significant proportion of the energy contained in various organic molecules to be transformed into an easily recoverable form: biogas. It's a mature technology at the start of the 21st century, with the implementation of high-performance, stable processes that meet modern requirements in terms of occupying space, saving energy and reducing the production of excess sludge.

As a "high biological pre-treatment" technology for waste effluents, methanization appears to be the ideal preliminary treatment to aerobic technologies, enabling further progress in pollution purification, but with a significant reduction in energy costs...
