1. Risk, security and protection against malicious acts
First of all, we need to define danger and risk, terms that often lead to confusion:
A hazard is an intrinsic property of a substance, equipment, situation or system that can cause damage to people, property or the environment (e.g. sulfuric acid is dangerous!);

risk results from the probability of occurrence of damage resulting from exposure to a hazard. It is the result of two parameters: probability and severity.
Risk = Probability × Severity
The higher the probability and severity, the higher the risk.
The risk resulting from the use of sulfuric acid will depend on the quantities handled, the quality of containment, operating conditions (temperature, pressure) and the resources deployed to protect operators....
