This article is essentially based on a document drawn up in 2002 as part of a study and research program financed by the French Ministry of the Environment (now the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development, formerly the Ministry of Spatial Planning and the Environment). The program is entitled "Recueil des méthodes utilisées à l'INERIS dans le domaine des risques accidentels".
