1. Standards in force
In the French standards system, issued by AFNOR (Association française de normalisation), fascicule de documentation T 50-050 (October 1974) – Symboles pour la désignation abrégée des matières de base des compositions plastiques (Symbols for the abbreviated designation of the basic materials of plastic compositions), specified the rules for the formation of symbols that could be used as abbreviated designations for terms relating to plastics. At the time of its publication, this fascicle was "broadly in line with ISO 1043" of 1969.
The latter standard underwent various revisions in 1975, 1978 and 1987. It was recently revised in 1999 and 2002, and the member countries of ISO TC 61 "Plastics" SC 1 "Terminology" turned it into a four-part standard.
