5. Applications

All FKM, FEPM and a fortiori FFKM are specialty elastomers with high prices corresponding to their specific features.

Consequently, the selection process will involve several stages:

  • the first is to identify the real needs for the application in question and choose FKM, FEPM or FFKM, if necessary, when the quality/price ratio justifies it;

  • the second is to decide which family is most suitable, bearing in mind that FFKMs almost always have the best properties but at the highest cost;

  • the third is to take account of any weak points in these materials, which are highly resistant but not indestructible, and decide whether to select special grades optimized for specific properties or applications.
