4. Properties of fluorocarbon elastomers

Fluorocarbon elastomers are distinguished from metallic and plastic materials by their elasticity, i.e. the ability to undergo large deformations and then return to dimensions close to the original ones. As a result, the molecular network must be sufficiently flexible and deformable, leading to low levels of mechanical properties and greater sensitivity to temperature variations and various types of aging.

Like all engineering materials, fluorocarbon elastomers are subject to other contingencies concerning, for example, chemical resistance, electrical properties, gas permeability, fire resistance...

Fluorocarbon elastomers cover a wide range of chemical compositions and structures, leading to a range of properties that is further extended by the mode of vulcanization and processing, as well as by formulation with various additives....
