6. Other packaging

6.1 Cardboard bricks, complex

  • Sealed roof brick: this is the oldest system, used as early as 1935 in the USA for milk packaging. It consists of cartons coated with wax for waterproofing (Ex-Cell-O system), folded and glued (figure 32 a ). The most important development was the use of six-layer packaging laminates from 1965 onwards, in which no wax or adhesive is required, as the two polyethylene layers are heat-sealed together at both ends.
